Extending the Life of Your Geyser

2026/02/03

A burst geyser is a nightmare scenario—flooded ceilings, ruined carpets, and icy showers. However, geysers often give warnings before they fail.

Maintenance Tips

  • Check the Anode: The sacrificial anode protects the tank from corrosion. It should be checked and replaced every 18-24 months.
  • Monitor the Temperature: Keeping your geyser at 60°C is optimal for energy saving and preventing bacterial growth.
  • Inspect the Drip Tray: Ensure the tray outlet is clear so that if a leak occurs, the water drains outside rather than onto your ceiling.
  • Vacuum Breakers: Ensure these are installed correctly to prevent the geyser from collapsing when emptying.

If you notice your water is not getting hot enough or you see water dripping from the overflow pipe constantly, call a plumber immediately.
